Ekta Kapoor is an Indian TV and Film producer. She is the Joint Managing Director and Creative Director of Balaji Films, a production company. She is often called “Queen of Soap Operas” in India.
Ekta Kapoor was born on 7th June 1975. She went to the Bombay Scottish School and has a bachelor’s degree from Mithibai College, Mumbai. She is the daughter of former Bollywood superstar Jeetendra and sister of current actor Tushar Kapoor.
At the age of 19, she ventured into TV-serial (series) production and soon changed the face of Indian television industry. Her company has produced more than 25 serials for channels such as Sony, Star Plus and Zee. She holds many records for TV serial production and popularity in India. Her most famous television venture has been ‘Kyuki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ (Because the Mother-in-Law was also a daughter-in-law earlier”) that began in 2000. Ekta Kapoor has joined hands with Bhojpuri film production banner Siddhivinaya Media Entertainment to produce two big budget Bhojpuri language films.
Her home production includes biggest and the most important films as ‘Love, Sex aur Dhoka’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’, ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Ragini MMS’ and the sequel of her earlier hit ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ named ‘Kya Super Kool Hai Hum’.
Kapoor was selected as one of the Asia’s most powerful communicators by the Asia Week magazine. For her entrepreneurial skills and achievements, Ekta Kapoor was awarded with Ernst & Young (E&Y) Start-up Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2001. In 2003, she has been honoured ‘ITA Scroll Honour of the Year’. In 2011, she has honoured ‘Performer of the Year’ by Screen awards. In 2012, she has received the ‘Great Woman Award’ for the Most Successful Woman. In 2012, she has received ‘Phalke Iconic Film & Television Producer’ from in the Dadasaheb Phalake Academy Awards. She was awarded ‘Box-Office Surprise of The Year’ in ETC Bollywood Business Awards in 2012.
