U.S. to Ship Pork and Pork Products to India

United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Trade Representative Katherine Tai announced that the government of India has agreed to allow imports of U.S. pork and pork products into India, removing a longstanding barrier to U.S. agricultural trade.

This news follows the successful revitalization of the U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum held in New Delhi in November 2021. During  this meeting, Ambassador Tai raised the importance of access for U.S. pork with India’s Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal.

Secretary Vilsack said, “We will continue working with the Indian government to ensure that the U.S. pork industry can begin shipping its high-quality products to consumers as soon as possible.”

Ambassador Tai noted, “I appreciate Minister Goyal’s efforts to facilitate this important development.”

Based on the ministerial discussions, India’s Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying expressed its readiness to provide market access for U.S. pork.
