India’s Indigo Selects CFM Engines for Airbus Fleet

India’s biggest airline IndiGo selected CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines to power its fleet of 310 new Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and A321XLR aircraft.

CFM International is a joint venture between GE Aviation, a division of General Electric of the U.S. and Safran Aircraft Engines of France. The joint venture was formed to build and support the CFM56 series of turbofan engines.

This deal brings the total number of LEAP-powered Airbus aircraft in IndiGo’s fleet, or currently on order, to 590, and makes the company one of Airbus’ largest customers. “This expansion will serve as a catalyst to boost India’s economic growth and the mobility of its people,” said Ronojoy Dutta, IndiGo’s chief executive officer.
