Mumbai-based telecom operator Reliance Jio announced that it will construct the largest international submarine cable system centered on India. In conjunction with global partners and New Jersey headquartered submarine cable supplier SubCom, two next generation cables will be deployed to support the exponential growth in data demand across the region.
The India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) system connects India eastbound with Asia Pacific markets through Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, while the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) system connects India westbound to the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. The systems will seamlessly interconnect as well as the world’s top inter-exchange points and content hubs. IAX and IEX will enhance the ability for consumer and enterprise users to access content and cloud services in and out of India.
The IAX system is expected to be ready for service by mid-2023, while the IEX system is expected to be ready for service in early 2024.
“Apart from the seamless connection of the IAX and IEX sub-sea systems, the two systems are also connected to the Reliance Jio Global Fiber Network to both the east and west coast of the USA,” a company statement said.
