On Sunday this week, the first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines made in India, will land in Mexico City from an order of 870,000 doses placed by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. The president confirmed this in his first press conference after recovering from a novel coronavirus infection himself.
Not be left behind, Canada has also reached out to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, asking for the Covid vaccines. Notably, Mr. Modi did not hold a grudge about recent comments from the Canadian leadership criticizing changes to farm product procurement laws.

Health Canada is reviewing two separate applications for approval of the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University researchers, including a joint pitch from the Serum Institute of India (SII). According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporaration, when asked this morning whether Canada has secured supplies from Modi, Trudeau called India a “great partner. I can highlight that India has been a great partner in fighting COVID, whether it’s helping us with delivery of other pharmaceuticals or whether it’s working together on potential vaccines.”
‘We’re going to continue to build on the strong relationship between Canada and India and ensure that we’re looking out for our citizens, while at the same time we’re looking to recover the global economy and create opportunities for everyone.”
