Indian Railways Sells Water From the Sky

India’s South Central Railway has installed an ‘atmospheric water generator’ kiosk at  the Secunderabad Railway Station in Telengana. The ‘atmospheric water generator’ is called ‘Meghdoot’. This technology is developed under  by Maithri Aquatech.

Water is harvested from the air, filtered and remineralized for drinking.

  • Air is sucked in through the air filter.
  • Moisture laden air passes over Condenser Surfaces.
  • Water collects in Tank, ready for dispensing
  • Water produced fulfills World Health Organisation (WHO) standards

There are a number of such “atmospheric water” projects underway in India, a country with a humid climate and a shortage of clean drinking water. Most urban Indians don’t trust municipal water supplies and many rural populations don’t even have piped water at all. Atmospheric water is a leapfrog technology that could bring safe water to hundreds of millions if it can scale.
