Pune, Maharashtra-based Praj Industries‘ award winning biotechnology, enfinity, will be deployed to produce ethanol and other co-products using sugarcane bagasse, or plant residue, in what will be America’s first bagasse-based bio-refinery.
The bio-refinery is jointly promoted by Miami, FL- based Omega Energy USA LLC, a developer of renewable energy projects, and St Martinville, Louisiana-based Lasuca Sugar, a producer of cane sugar, which will supply the bagasse feedstock. The proposed project in the cane-sugar belt of the country will have the capacity to produce 10-15 million gallons per year of second generation (2G) cellulosic ethanol.

Earlier this year, domain specialists from the U.S. visited Praj’s 2G integrated bio-refinery demonstration plant, and Praj Matrix the company’s R&D center in Pune, to study the technology, and they validated the facility, the plant performance, and the scope for proliferation.
