Black Tiger Shrimp Makes a Comeback

After years of decline, India’s farmers are starting to harvest black tiger shrimp again. To encourage farmers to harvest black tiger shrimp, India’s Marine Product Export Development Authority developed high-quality black tiger shrimp seeds from its new aquaculture facility to sell to local farmers. These seeds have increased the production of black tiger shrimp on the southwestern coast of India.

According to MPEDA chairman K.S. Srinivas, the “increased production of the black tiger variety can boost India’s shrimp exports in the long run.  We are seeing the early signs of it happening.”
