sSan Jose, CA-headquartered Cisco Systems signed a memorandum of understanding with the IT Mission of India’s India’s southern Kerala state to bring the benefits of digital technology and data science to the farming community in the state. The first phase of this initiative will be rolled out in 15 panchayats which are local governments at the village or small town level in India.
Cisco will build an Agri-Digital Infrastructure Platform and set up Village Knowledge Centers for knowledge delivery and provide access to e-learning and advisory services to the farming and fishing communities. Farmers will gain access to essential information on government policy and financing updates, crop advisory services, market trends, rates and best practice videos.

The Platform will become a centralized knowledge hub that will provide data-based recommendations and insights to improve agriculture planning, reduce the risk of crop mortality and overall operational costs. It will utilize IoT sensors, Non-IoT databases, and satellite/UAV images to gather and relay real-time intelligence on soil content, moisture, weather conditions and other parameters.
