Kazakhstan, the Central Asian nation with the second largest uranium reserves and almost 15% of the world’s recoverable uranium, is currently the largest supplier of the commodity to India. The country is looking at scaling up its supply of the key energy source to India from 5,000 tons during 2015-19 to more than 7,500 tonnes over the next five years, the Kazakh ambassador said. He added that this proposal “is positively moving” and he hoped that it would be finalized soon.

Additionally, India has agreed to Kazakhstan’s proposal to negotiate another agreement on nuclear applications in education, medicine, among other areas of cooperation, the envoy said. The two sides are discussing cooperation in space, especially pertaining to Kazakhstan’s interest in building satellites to monitor the weather.
