Hershey Enters Protein Cookie Market in India

Derry Township, PA-based Hershey Company, launches the  premium, ‘Better for You’ product line of Sofit Protein Cookies in India. The launch of this new product is part of Hershey’s plan to invest $50 million in India.

Sofit is a market leader of soy milk in the country, and in the last decade, Hershey India has grown the brand 20 percent annually. The cookie, or biscuits as they are popularly known in India, will be made at the company’s Hyderabad facility in three varieties: natural cocoa with flax seeds, mango with real almond bits, and raisins with flax seeds.

Hershey India’s managing director Herjit Bhalla said, “The biscuits category in urban India is almost $2.8 billion and it’s growing at 10%. Over the years, Sofit has built a distinct protein proposition for itself. Till now it has been a single category beverage brand. Going forward, our intent is to build Sofit into a snacking portfolio of different categories. The premium biscuits market is almost $800 million. It’s growing at a much faster clip of 17%. “
