By the end of September 2018, India recorded 56o million internet users marking 65% growth from 340 million connections in March 2016. According to a report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India 64% of the internet connections are from urban areas while 36% are from its rural regions.
India’s states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra account for 36% of the total internet connections in India. India’s surge in internet connectivity is fueled by the growth of smartphone users in the country, and Cisco forecasts that the number of smartphone users in India will reach over 800 million by 2022.
