PepsiCo to Digitize Supply Chain in India

PepsiCo India is looking at using technology in both backward and forward integration and making it the cornerstone of its business. Ahmed El Sheikh, president and chief executive officer, said that the company has finalized a project which will digitize the total supply chain within PepsiCo India by digitally connecting ten million retailers and nearly 600 million consumers, with the supplier.

“We are also working on another project to digitize our connection with farmers. We are talking about thousands of farmers where we want to be connected with the crops in the field, getting certain parameters measured and taking corrective action against it through digital solutions,” he said.

The company, which reported profit in 2017-18, after a gap of seven years, is bullish on the prospects in the country and is rolling out the first river shipment of sixteen containers of its snack portfolio from Kolkata to Varanasi. “It is the first container movement on inland waterways, on the river Ganga,” Sheikh added.
