India's New Medical Insurance treats 100,000

Within a month of its launch, the Indian government’s health insurance program Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY) provided medical benefits to more than 100,000 patients.

Indu Bhushan, CEO of Ayushman Bharat, said that currently 14,000 hospitals were empaneled or were in the process of being empaneled in the program. No private hospital has yet been added to the network of hospitals. Bhushan added that the systems, especially the IT system which is the backbone of the scheme, are working satisfactorily. The IT-based platform makes it easy to track patients, maintain records, and reimburse money. “There, however, are some teething troubles as it is a new system.”
