Daimler Expands Truck Production in India

Erich Nesselhauf, managing director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicle, the Indian arm of German auto company Daimler AG, said, “Currently, we have a capacity to produce 72,000 trucks a year at our Oragadam unit in Chennnai. The company is on course to achieve the break-even by the end of 2018. We hope to close the year with a double-digit  growth. In 2019, we will post strong growth as we expect lots of buying prior to the implementation of BS-VI emission norms [to be effective in 2020].”

Nesselhauf added that 70% of the company’s production in Chennai was meant for the India market. “We have created a solid base to cater to both India and global markets,” he said.
