Companies, Trade Groups Protest Import Tariffs

Manufacturer, distributor, and installer of garage storage and home organization products since 2008, Lake Forest, CA-based SafeRacks‘ CEO, Matt Davis says, “Tariffs are a sales tax on American consumers. They disrupt supply chains and make it very difficult for small business to compete.”

SafeRacks’ Wall Shelving

Davis, a 10-year career veteran from the United States Air Force, believes that while the industry is highly competitive, SafeRacks, like many companies, faces extremely low margins and cannot alone absorb these tariffs. “Little has changed or can be stolen over the idea of a shelf.” He explains that the only negative and disproportionate impact will be on SafeRacks, its employees, and the American consumer.

Washington D.C.-based national trade association API’s vice president for Regulatory and Economic Policy Kyle Isakower released the following statement regarding the additional round of tariffs:

“The U.S. natural gas and oil industry delivers affordable and abundant energy to households and businesses across the country, strengthening the U.S. economy every day. However, this current trade dynamic works against U.S. energy sector growth and counter to the Administration’s stated goal of ‘energy dominance’.”

Kyle Isakower, API

The American Petroleum Institute is the only national trade association representing all facets of the oil and natural gas industry, which supports 10.3 million U.S. jobs and nearly 8 percent of the U.S. economy. API’s more than 600 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms. They provide most of the nation’s energy and are backed by a growing grassroots movement of more than 47 million Americans.
