The Indian Electronics and Semiconductors Association projects 10.1 percent growth in sales of semiconductors in India between 2018 and 2025. The main opportunities for growth in India are the fields of industrial automation, defense, and rural broadband.
India has vast talent pools in both hardware and software semiconductor design engineers says the EE Times which queried companies on their Indian operations. Riverside, CA-headquartered Bourns Inc., whose India business is 8 percent of its Asia business, said that the most attractive opportunity in India is with EVs or Electric Vehicles. Bourns highlighted a young population and a clear government plan to make India an auto manufacturing and global R&D hub.
Tokyo, Japan-based Fujitsu said its targets in India were a 70 percent market share in energy metering, and a 50 percent market share of the automotive market. The company hopes to double its revenue within three to five years. China-based Gowin Semiconductor Corp., aims to serve the Internet of Things, EV, and communications sectors with its field-programmable gate arrays. It plans to set up a dedicated office in India within the next two years, and has set itself the target of doubling its India business every year. Mansfield TX-headquartered Mouser Electronics recognizes Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Internet of Things as opportunities in India and has added over twenty-five suppliers in the country this year. Mouser also welcomes the EV policies of India’s government.
