The state-owned units of India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) performed well in 2017: Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited‘s 2017 profit of $482 million was its highest ever; Uranium Corporation of India Ltd., achieved its highest ever production; and fuel cycle company Nuclear Fuel Complex achieved 115% of its target production for the year, said DAE chairman and secretary Sekhar Basu.

Basu enunciated the notable nuclear power sector achievements which include:
–> the longest operating run for the Kaiga 1 pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) with over 826 days of continuous operation
–> the start of excavations and equipment ordering for two 700 MWe PHWRs at Gorakhpur
–> the Industrial Way Forward agreement in March 2018 with GE and EDF for the establishment of six EPR units (European Pressurized Reactor or Evolutionary Power Reactor) in Jaitapur
–> the tripartite agreement between Bangladesh, India, and Russia for the establishment of Bangladesh’s Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, for which India will also provide technical support
–> discussions with Westinghouse on six AP1000 reactors for Kovvada that are ongoing.
