Philadelphia, PA-based Comcast and Los Angeles headquartered Disney regard Star India to be an asset in their bidding war for a large portion of New York’s 21st Century Fox Inc.
In December, Disney said that it would buy some of Fox for $52.4 billion in an all-stock deal. In June 2018 Comcast offered a bid of $65 billion to acquire much of Rupert Murdoch‘s global empire.

Integrating Star India will help Comcast or Disney, neither of which have a large presence in the Indian subcontinent, hedge against the rising dominance of the FAANG company and increase exposure to emerging markets, people cited by a WSJ article indicated. Star India offers sixty channels in nine different languages, and lists 700 million monthly customers. It owns the rights to stream high-profile sporting events such as cricket tournaments, and has a significant stake in a production company that makes Bollywood films.
According to independent research company, MoffettNathanson, Star will generate $826 million in EBITDA by 2020, representing a 91% increase from fiscal year 2018.
