India to Launch 103 Satellites in February Mission

India’s Space Research Organization is poised to launch 103 satellites in a record single mission in the month of February. The rocket will be launched from the southern spaceport of Sriharikota, and will carry three Indian satellites that will observe and measure the earth’s atmosphere, along with another 100 from the U.S., France and Germany, which will be used for commercial purposes.

Launching commercial satellites into space for a fee is a growing business as phone, internet and other companies as well as countries seek greater and more high-tech communications. India, which is known for its low-cost space program, is competing with other international players for a greater share of that launch market reports the DailyMail of U.K.
