India's Food Safety Regulator Simplifies Rules

IndiaRetailing.Com reports that in an effort to streamline and simplify regulations for the food service industry, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has planned to implement:

  1. The appointment Food Safety Supervisors – In a pilot testing phase, the training and certification of Food Safety Supervisors has already been started in the western state of Goa, and will be conducted in all states.
  2. Displaying Food Safety Boards – If Food Safety Display Boards, that highlight food safety and hygiene measures are not displayed or  followed at outlets that serve food, consumers can reach the regulators via a helpline.
  3. Streamlining the responsibilities of various agencies concerned with food service – CEO, FSSAI, Pawan Agarwal said, “The police authority will monitor public gatherings from a law and order point of view; the municipal authorities will be responsible for the general sanitation of the place; and the food authority will ensure food safety and hygiene of the food served to consumers is concerned.”restaurant
