Last month, as part of a 100-day commitment to the government, telecom operators in India — Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, BSNL, MTNL, Reliance Communications, Aircel, Telenor, Tata Docomo and Reliance Jio — set up 48,000 new telecom sites across the country to curb call drops. Another 12,000 base transceiver stations will be installed by August end, reports telecomlead.
Manoj Sinha, Minister of State for Communications, said that the next phase of the telecom spectrum auction will take place in September, and the government expects to make $84 billion from the upcoming biggest-ever telecom airwaves auction of over 2,300 MHz of airwaves in seven bands — 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, 2,300 MHz and 2,500 MHz.
