Celebrating its most successful year ever in 2015 selling over 1.2 million cars, and its 75th anniversary this year, Jeep, the wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles of Michigan, disclosed that in mid-2016, it will start selling cars in India for the first time. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep Grand Cherokee and high-performance Grand Cherokee SRT will be available mid-year to customers in India. “Our aggressive expansion in international markets is one of the key drivers behind our current global sales momentum,” Jeep CEO Mike Manley said in statement.

India is the fifth-largest market for new cars, and it will play a significant role in Jeep reaching its revised target of 2 million sales in 2018. Next year, Jeep will start production of at least one model at a plant in Ranjangaon, located to the west of the major city Mumbai. The identity of the model is yet to be announced, reports Motor Authority.
