Sun Microsystems

Industry:  Information Technology and Services

Sun Microsystems was first established in India in July 1998, although it had a presence in India since 1987 through distributor arrangements. Sun established the India Engineering Centre (IEC) in May 1999 to enhance its engineering capabilities globally. In IEC they work on Enterprise Server Products, Global e-Services Engineering, Internationalism, Java Web Services, IT, Java Software, Network and System management, and Solaris. Sun largely owes its success in India to partnerships with key India companies such as Wipro, Tata infotech, CMC, Tech pacific, Accell ICIM, HCL Infosystem, and CDAC. To Sun, India is a huge market, R&D center, and a goldmine for cost effective software talent pool.
