Elizabeth I of England

Elizabeth I of England

Queen Elizabeth I (7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603), AKA the Virgin Queen, was the Protestant revivalist of Great Britain in her days. A very strong woman figure, Queen Elizabeth led the country to prosperity and unity through her calculated, shrewd, and wise decisions. She, unlike Queen Elizabeth II, was no figurehead. Her father was Tudor King Henry VIII, the one who defied the Catholic Church and was excommunicated by divorcing from Anne Boleyn. They were both beheaded for this, and it is believed that these unfortunate and traumatic events were what led to the boldness and strong suit of Queen Elizabeth.

Indian film director Shekhar Kapur was requested to make a movie about Queen Elizabeth I and her affair with the Earl of Leicester, Robert Dudley. Elizabeth(1998), starring Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth was a success. Kapur then made a sequel to the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age(2007) also starring Cate Blanchett. The sequel is about the Spanish building up for a war against England, while Queen Elizabeth has an affair with Sir Walter Raleigh. The movie has won multiple awards including the Oscar, especially for Costume design.
