While the United States is no longer home to the any of the top 5 tallest buildings in the world, there are plenty of middling skyscrapers built across the USA that give this country the overall lead among the tallest buildings in the world. Dubai, Taipei, Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur have tried to outdo each other in recent years but China has thrown the most hats in the ring for recent tallest buildings; as a result 4 of the 10 tallest buildings in the world in December 2009 are located in mainland China.
