SWATI PIRAMALSwati Piramal is the Vice Chairperson of Piramal Enterprises Limited, a multinational drug discovery company which aims to bring reasonable medicines. Piramal owns manufacturing operations in a number of countries and supplies medicines to over  100 countries.

Swati was born on 28th March 1956. She  received a physician degree from Mumbai University in 1980. In 1992, she received her Master’s Degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.  She is married to Ajay Piramal, Chairman, Piramal Healthcare.

Swati heads a team of scientists in cancer, diabetes, inflammation and infectious disease research, with a group of over 200 international patents, and 14 new drugs. She has worked in the prevention of chronic diseases like arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease. She is an initiator of the Gopikrishna Piramal Hospital in Mumbai, and has launched public health campaigns against chronic disease, Osteoporosis, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Epilepsy and polio. She started Ostop India, a prevention of Osteoporosis programme, and a field detection centre for detection of Diabetes, Epilepsy. She has written several books on clinical nutrition and a book on nutrition for patients with Kidney Disease.

Swati is the Director of Piramal Foundation helps to promote health in rural India with the help of mobile (HMRI), women’s empowerment projects, and supporting community education that creates young leaders.

She serves as the Member on the Board of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) the top government organization that manages India’s national laboratories. She is a Director of Sarvajal foundation for clean water. She currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board of both the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Business School. Swati joined the Board of Directors of Nestlé India Limited as a Non-Executive Independent Director in 2010. She serves on the Boards of Indian and International Academic institutions such as I.I.T. Bombay, and the University of Pennsylvania.]. Since 2012, she serves as Non-Executive Director of ICICI Bank Limited.

Swati has received BMA Management ‘Woman Achiever of the Year Award’ in the two consecutive years 2004, 2005. In 2006, she has received numerous Indian and International awards- Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite (Knight of the Order of Merit), from the French President Jacques Chirac, ‘Lucknow National Leadership Award’ in the Young Leader in the field of Science and Technology category from the Prime Minister of India and Chemtech Pharma Award for ‘Outstanding Contributions’ in Pharma Biotech industries. She has been awarded Rajiv Gandhi Award for ‘Outstanding Woman Achiever’ in the year 2007. She has honoured ‘Global Empowerment Award 2010’ in UK. In year 2012, she has received the Padma Shri from the President of India, Pratibha Patil. In 2012, she has received the’ Lotus Award at New York’, from Children’s Hope India, for Leadership and Philanthropy.
