The India Science Laboratory for GM complements the General Motors research programs in the US. It was set up by GM in Bangalore several years ago .Its purpose was to conduct research in areas such as vehicle design tools, enterprise modeling and virtual manufacturing, embedded control systems, infrastructure and automotive materials and chemical systems. ISL is already working with leading Indian research and development organizations and has signed master agreements with IITs, CSIR Labs for collaborative research in various fields of structural science and material science. ISL strives to be a critical part of GM’s Global Research Network. India’s strong workforce in the research industry is an advantage in ISL’s aggressive pursuit of research opportunities. The US department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California at Berkley are working toward reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases while maintaining economic growth. Researchers will be working with the government and private sector of India in a joint research and development program. They will be developing energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies while addressing the policy innovations needed to transfer these technologies to the marketplace.
