Being the eldest daughter of industrialist A. Sivasailam, Chairman of the Amalgamations Group, she joined TAFE Company as the General Manager in 1986. She has increased TAFE’s revenues from $20 million to over $1.6 billion. She has led TAFE’s entry to the international market.
Mallika´s interest in development of education and healthcare in India made her support organizations as the Sankara Nethralaya and the Cancer Hospital in Chennai. Her interest in arts made her support India’s tradition of Carnatic (South Indian) music through the Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund.
Mallika has been the Chairman and Director of the United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Limited since 2011. She serves as Non-Executive Director of Tata Global Beverages Limited (formerly Tata Tea Ltd.) since 2008. Since 2012, she has been an Independent Non-Executive Independent Director at Tata Steel Limited Since 2011; she has been Director and Member of Succession Planning Committee of AGCO Corporation. She is currently a Member of the Executive Board of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. She served on the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology,Madras, and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi and the Southern Regional Committee of the CII. She was President of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mallika Srinivasan was the very first recipient of the BBC Businesswoman of the year Award in 1999. She was awarded the ‘Zee Astitva Award for Exemplary Women’ in 2005 by Zee TV, for Business Entrepreneurship. In 2011, she was voted ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ by Ernst and Young. She has been awarded the ‘Woman Leader of the Year 2012’ award by Forbes India. In the year 2012, she was named among the Top 50 Asian Power Businesswomen recognized by Forbes Asia and ranked second among India’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business by Fortune India. She was named among the six Most Powerful Women of India by Business Today. The Asian Business Leadership Forum (ABLF) honoured her with the ‘ABLF Woman of Power Award 2012’. NDTV Profit, India’s leading Business television channel, accorded her the special honour of ‘Business Thought Leader of the Year 2012’, at the NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards.
