Lakshmi Mittal is the chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ArcelorMittal, the global leader in steel production. ArcelorMittal, which operates in over 60 countries, surpasses all other companies in all major steel markets, which include automotive, construction, and household appliances. ArcelorMittal has revenues of over $65.1 billion, as of 2009. Mittal and his family live in Europe, although he holds an Indian passport.
Born in Rajasthan, India, Lakshmi Mittal is the largest investor in (formerly known as Mittal Steel), the leading steel and mining company in the world. With a net worth of $16 billion as of October 2013, he is among the richest British Indians. In 2011, Forbes magazine listed him as one of the wealthiest billionaires in the world. After his education from Calcutta India, Lakshmi Mittal joined an Indian steel company, in which his father was a partner.
Having learned the ropes and eager to prove himself, Mittal branched out starting his own steel company in Indonesia in 1976. He expanded operations to Trinidad and Tobago in 1989 and the UK in 1995. What followed was a series of acquisitions, and a merger in 2006 with Arcelor, making the conglomerate the largest steel company in the world. Lakshmi Mittal’s many awards include Forbes Lifetime Achievement Award (2008), India’s Padma Vibhushan (2007), and European Businessman of the Year (2004), He is also a man who loves to live life king-size. His 55,000 square feet residence in Kensington Palace Gardens called the Taj Mittal is valued at 250 million pounds and is said to be the among the most expensive private homes in the world.
