Katy Perry has a special connection with India. Her ex-husband comedian Russell Brand proposed to her in India in 2009 when the couple were holidaying there.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand returned to India in October 2010 to get married at Ranthambore tiger sanctuary. The wedding ceremony with traditional rituals was conducted by a Hindu priest. The celebrations lasted for six days.
Katy Perry has proudly displayed her henna tattoos acquired in India and her racy song ‘Peacock’ in the album Teenage Dream was inspired by her visits to India where she came across the beautiful birds.
Cricket and Indian Premier League
Katy Perry visited India in April 2012 to perform live in the southern city of Chennai to open the Indian Premier League cricket tournament.
During the show, Perry entertained her fans with provocative dancing and humorous acts. She performed her hit song Teenage Dreams and an Indianized version of California Gurls which was remixed in Bollywood style.
Katy Perry’s costume for the live show was also inspired by Bollywood. She wore an elaborately sequined top and pink shorts covered by a transparent fabric. The world famous singer also wore traditional Indian makeup and accessories to appear like an Indian princess.
