Industry: Auto Manufacturers – Major
Ford India: Ford first established itself in India in 1995 in a joint venture with Mahindra&Mahindra to create the Ford Escort. Since then Ford changed the equity holding, buying out a major stake. Ford had some challenges in India due to uncertainty in the Indian car market and the reluctance of the consumers to upgrade their cars. However, Ford was able to succeed by producing a wide variety of cars, a high amount of localization, checking quality and customer satisfaction, and reaching out to untouched markets. The Ford Information Technology Services India(FITSI) in Chennai develops solutions for Ford worldwide. It is also used as a global hub for all of Ford’s accounting. Ford has also used India as an export base for cars, because it has cheap manufacturing and can increase exports.
