Doing business in Punjab: The word “Punjab” means ‘Land of Five Rivers’ in Persian. The state got that name because the five major rivers, Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, Jhelum, and Beas, all exist here. The official language is Punjabi and the capital city is Chandigarh. It is located towards the northern part of India.
Fertile land
The presence of 5 major rivers makes Punjab more fertile than any other land in the region. The soil conditions make this state ideal for growing crops such as rice, wheat, sugarcane, vegetables, and fruits. Cotton maize and barley are also produced here. The state is known as the granary of India because of its fertile land and the amount of crops it produces. Punjab produces 2% of the wheat and cotton in the world and 1% of the rice in the world.
Industry
Doing business in Punjab: While most of Punjab is engaged in agriculture, there are other industries that thrive here as well. Manufacturers of machine tools, electrical good, sports goods, pine oil, bicycles, fertilizers, starch, and scientific instruments also have a presence in this state.
Infrastructure
Punjab is known to have good infrastructure. Every city, town and village is connected to the power grid, so electricity is not a major problem. Punjab has one major international airport that is located in Amritsar. The other two major airports of the state are in Ludhiana and Chandigarh. There are major train stations at Jalandhar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, and Rajpura in addition to those at Amritsar and Chandigarh. Two National Highways, NH-21 and NH-1, connect the towns and villages of this state.
