The capital of the combined territory is Daman, with the largest city being Silvassa.
Daman and Diu used to be part of Goa’s union territory, but were separated when Goa gained statehood in 1987. Dadra and Nagar Haveli has been a union territory since 1974.
This union territory has a complex layout. Dadra is a small enclave within the state of Gujarat. Nagar Haveli is a C-shaped enclave located between the Gujurat and Maharastra. Daman is an enclave on the coast of Gujarat, while Diu is an island off the coast of Gujarat.
As of the last India census in 2011, the population was 585,764 over an area of 233 miles.
Economy
There is no major industry in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu except for a few craftsmen who make pots, leather items, and bamboo items. Major crops that are grown are Paddy, Nagli, Mango, Chiku, Banana, jowar, tuvr,and sugarcane.
Tourism
Some major tourist attractions are Khanvel, the Tribal Cultural Museum, and the Vanganga Lake. Tourism is popular because of the nice climate and the dense forestry. Festivals of interest are Kite festival, Tarpa Festival, world Tourism Day, and various festivals from different religions and tribes.
