Located in India’s southeast, the state of Andhra Pradesh is bordered by Telangana and Odisha to the north, Karnataka to the west, Tamil Nadu in the south, and the water body, Bay of Bengal in the east. The population is 85 Million with a GDP of $92 billion as of 2016. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows totaled $14 Billion in 2017.
In June 2014, the northwestern portion of Andhra was carved out into the new state of Telangana, while Andhra is to lose its erstwhile capital of Hyderabad. The proposed new capital is Amaravati, with other large cities being Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Warangal The Indian Institute of Technology has a campus in Tirupati. Also, the Indian Institute of Management is present in Vishakhapatnam.
The most common language spoken is Telugu, with other prominent languages being Hindi, Tamil, Urdu and Kannada.
Transport
There are two major ports in Andhra Pradesh, Kakinada and Vishakhapatnam. Vishakhapatnam is the 4th busiest port in India in terms of port traffic. The only international airport is Vishakhapatnam International Airport (VTZ). . A new international airport is proposed at Bhogapuram.

Andhra Pradesh is well irrigated by the Krishna, the Tungabhadra, the Godavari, and the Penna rivers. The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is the one of the highest masonry dams in the world. India has designated Kovvada in Andhra Pradesh as the site for a proposed 6,000 megawatt light water nuclear power plant.
Agriculture is the main source of income for the people of Andhra Pradesh. As it is known as the rice granary of India, crops such as rice, corn, cereal, pulses, sugarcane and tobacco are grown in the state. Andhra Pradesh accounts for a major share in the overall exports of seafood products from India. It also ranks first in shrimp and fish production in the country.
Andhra Pradesh is also a leader in producing minerals such as quartz, silica, and mica. It contributes to 41% of India’s mica. It is also one of the leading producers for hides and skins, as it contributes to 10% of the total share in India.
A few of the large corporations from the pharmaceutical sector are Aurobindo Pharma, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and Granules India. Multinational corporations such as Mylan and Hospira also operate their manufacturing services.
In the processed food sector, Mondelez opened its largest manufacturing plant in India at Sri City. ITC ltd, one of India’s largest conglomerates also has a manufacturing unit in Anaparti, the largest off shore gas field in India , Krishna Godavari Dhirubhai 6 (KG-D6), is located off the coast of Andhra Pradesh.
