“I believe that Life is Priceless- each and every life.”
– Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy
Heeding a directive from his father in 1971, U.S.-trained cardiologist Dr. Prathap Reddy left his practice in Boston and returned to India. On his return he found the medical landscape in the country plagued by gaps in infrastructure, delivery and affordability, and he was determined to provide quality healthcare to India. He built the country’s first corporate hospital in Chennai in 1983. Today the Apollo Group comprises of over 10,000 beds across 56 hospitals, more than 1500 pharmacies, over 100 primary care & diagnostic clinics, 115 telemedicine units across 9 countries, health insurance services, global projects consultancy, 15 academic institutions and a research foundation with a focus on global clinical trials, epidemiological studies, stem-cell and genetic research. It has touched and enriched 39 million lives from 120 countries.
Dr. Reddy has been instrumental in bringing several regulatory changes related to licensing, ceasing of import restrictions and permission for organ transplants. Also known to be a compassionate humanitarian, Dr. Reddy started some initiatives for the underprivileged: SACHI – Save A Child’s Heart Initiative — provides quality pediatric cardiac care and financial support to children suffering from heart diseases. SAHI — Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired — helps children with hearing impairment. The CURE Foundation is focused on cancer screening, cure and rehabilitation for those in need.
The Government of India recognized Dr. Prathap C Reddy’s contribution to Healthcare and awarded him the second highest civilian award, the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ in 2010.
