Situated on the banks of the Noyyal River and nearby to the Siruvani Waterfalls. The second largest city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore, is a major textile and engineering hub of South India. It is heavily industrialized with textile factories, engineering firms, car parts manufacturers, health care facilities and technical educational institutions. Industrialization of the region began in 1888 and continued into the 20th century. The city has a tropical wet and dry climate.

Transportation
The city has an airport, the Coimbatore airport, an air force base, and several major bus stands. Trains connect Coimbatore to all parts of India and Tamil Nadu. The city has six major arterial roads and three National Highways , and a new bypass highway built by Larsen and Toubro completed in 1998 has helped reduce truck traffic inside the city.
