Chhattisgarh has a total population of 26 million located in the center-eastern part of India with the GDP in 2016 totaling $ 41 billion. Total FDI inflows was $1.3 Billion in the same year. Being a landlocked state, it borders Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra to the west, Odisha to the east, Telangana to the south and Uttar Pradesh in the north. Chhattisgarh became the 26th state of India in November 2000, by being carved out of Madhya Pradesh. The capital of Chhattisgarh is Raipur, followed by other cities such as Raigarh, Bhillai, Bilaspur and Korba. The official language is Hindi, followed by Odia, Marathi and Telugu.
Education
One of India’s premier Engineering Institutions, the Indian Institute of Technology has a campus in Bhillai. Also, the Indian Institute of Management is in Raipur.
Doing Business in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh is an energy rich state. It has an excess supply of energy available due to the presence of coal. The economy is mainly driven by the mineral resources available. It has deposits of limestone, iron ore, copper, bauxite, dolomite and coal. It contributes to 5.4% of the total limestone reserves in India. Chhattisgarh is responsible for 35% of tin ore reserves of India.
Chhattisgarh produces 15% of India’s steel. Bhillai Steel Plant operated by the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is one of India’s largest integrated steel plants. There are also cement plants, (ACC, Gujarat Ambuja, Grasim, and CCI), chemical plants, and plastic and fabrication units. In agriculture, rice, corn, lentils, peanuts, soybean, and wheat are important crops grown.
Transport
Raipur Airport (RPR) has daily flights from both Mumbai and Delhi.
