On Saturday November 13, A U.S. Congressional Delegation lead by Senator John Cornyn, co-founder and co-chair of the Senate caucus on India and Indian Americans, met Prime Minister Modi to discuss regional issues of mutual interest, including those related to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
Other members of the delegation were Senator Michael Crapo, Senator Thomas Tuberville, Senator Michael Lee, Congressman Tony Gonzales, and Congressman John Kevin Elizey.
The Prime Minister and the visiting delegation exchanged views on strengthening cooperation on contemporary global issues such as terrorism, climate change, and reliable supply chains for critical technologies. They also noted the increasing convergence of strategic interests between the two partners to promote global peace and stability.
The Delegation commended the excellent management of the COVID-19 situation in India in spite of the challenges of a large and diverse population. The Prime Minister responded that people’s participation based on the democratic ethos of the country played a key role in managing the worst pandemic of the last century. Modi also said that India appreciated the support and constructive role of the U.S. Congress in deepening the India-U.S. comprehensive global strategic partnership which is anchored in shared democratic values.
