German life science and technology firm Merck announced a partnership for collaborative research on processing special effect pigments with Bangalore-based STEER Engineering, a company that has 60 global patents for its innovations.
STEER will contribute process know-how, the technology platform, and its expertise in materials transformation, while Merck brings to the table its understanding of pigments and their behaviors and core research work in plastics to create a c0-rotating twin screw extruder technology to process special effect pigments that are used to add glitter in cosmetics, the fashion industry, apparels and paints.
Both companies will validate the tests before launching the tech platform, according to Babu Padmanabhan, STEER managing director & Chief Knowledge Officer, says the Economic Times.
