RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Riverside County EDA/Office of Foreign Trade hosted a “How Do Reach Markets in India” seminar here on July 28.
The presentation was a part of their College of Foreign Trade, for which the county partnered with the Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administration and the California Centers for International Trade Development.
One of the missions of the office is to help educate the manufacturers and service businesses on how to gain market share in overseas markets. Moderated by Gunjan Bagla, Indian American founder and managing director of Amritt Consulting, and tag teaming with UCR Professor Dr. Jeremey Busacca, the seminar provided a thorough overview about the India economy, culture, political structure and business climate.
The panel of experts each shared a summary of their business experiences in India before fielding a series of questions from the audience, largely comprising CEOs from small and large businesses trying to get a better understanding of how to expand their business into the fastest growing economy in the world.
To help the audience understand the Indian businessman, Bagla said, “The Indian businessman may speak English but does not think American.” This alluded to the cultural differences that can contribute to misunderstanding each other. Understanding these differences can go a long way to being successful in the India market, he added.
