On August 27, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded a technical assistance grant to Delhi’s major power distributor, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), to optimize the delivery of power to more than 1.7 million consumers in one of the city’s most rapidly growing and densely populated areas.
Enoh T. Ebong, USTDA’s Acting Director said, “USTDA is helping Indian utilities form connections to innovative technologies and cutting-edge solutions from the United States that will have a meaningful impact on their operations.”
USTDA’s technical assistance will enable the design and implementation of a platform to effectively collect, manage, and use the utility’s data to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy losses. “Our support for BYPL’s smart grid project will help set a standard for energy efficiency that can be a model for all of India,” Ebong added.
“Rise in digitalization and new technology adoption trends provide immense opportunity for creating business values from generation of data. Further, integration of distributed energy resources will unleash new business models for Indian utilities to better prepare for energy transition,” said Amarjeet Singh, BYPL’s CEO.
This project advances the goals of the U.S.-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership and USTDA’s Global Partnership for Climate-Smart Infrastructure, which connects U.S. industry to major clean energy and transportation infrastructure projects in emerging markets.
