Lacoste of France plans to double its India revenue by 2018, according to Rajesh Jain, its India Director. The company has grown in India at over 25 percent in each of the last three years and current sells products in 45 stores under its South Asia affiliate, Sports and Leisure Apparel Ltd.
In the coming year the French brand will open stores in 2nd tier cities Jaipur, Pune and Chandigarh, followed by Amritsar, Jalandhar, Cochin, Ahmadabad, Indore and Lucknow. Its South Asia presence include a store in the Maldive Islands and the future may include Sri Lanka as well. Lacoste India is a strategic alliance between Lacoste and Sports and Leisure Apparel Limited which has the exclusive rights to manufacture Lacoste branded garments in India and distribute/market Lacoste branded garments in India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Sports and Leisure Apparel has a manufacturing unit in Noida just outside India’s capital of New Delhi. While it manufactures apparel in India, other lines such as shoes, bags, belts, sunglasses, watches, jewelry are largely imported. Apparel, perfumes and footwear comprise over 95% of the revenue in India and are dominated by the Polo brand.
It has launched new collection ‘Lacoste Live’, targeting the age group of 18 to 25 years, and is available at the Delhi, Chandigarh and Mumbai stores.
