On November 7, India conducted a flight test of its homegrown long range land-attack cruise missile Nirbhay (Sanskrit: Fearless), which can deliver nuclear warheads to a strike range of 621 miles. The sub-sonic missile is designed to carry a 661 pound nuclear warhead.
“The flight test achieved all mission objectives completely from lift-off till the final splash down. The missile cruised for 50 minutes, achieving a range of 402 miles,” said an official from India’s state- owned Defense Research and Development Organization.
The two-stage missile is 19.6 feet long, 1.7 feet wide with a wing span of 8.8 feet. It can fly at a speed of 0.7 Mach. Its launch weight is about 3,307 pounds, reports The Times of India. It is designed to fly at low-altitudes to evade enemy radars and missile defense systems.
