01:10 – 02:45 pm Panel I: State of Manufacturing in India
The Government of India’s Make in India program looks to spur foreign investment into expanding India’s manufacturing sector. The program spans all industries and holds enormous potential for job growth and increased job security in India. If US companies increase their investment in India’s manufacturing sector and are to positively capitalize on this important opportunity for the world economy, we need to look at the starting point. To understand the current state of manufacturing in India, it becomes immensely important to outline where US companies are and are not already strongly represented.

03:00 – 04:45pm Panel II: Policy Framework for Growth
(1hr 45 mins) After we understand where US industry currently contributes to the manufacturing sector in India, we need to look at the policy framework in existence that affects the current state of manufacturing. We will ask where the points of priority for change to this framework exist. This panel will focus on examples from industries of crucial importance in the San Francisco Bay Area as a microcosm of industry strongly represented in the US and already heavily invested in manufacturing in India and abroad. A central theme to discussion will be competition and how the current policy framework in India is changing to address past challenges our companies faced when considering increased investment in this sector.
