Supplier screening process is one of the critical stages in global scouting. At Amritt, we utilize two types of screening filters in order to identify the right targets for our clients:
- Coarse filter: We work with you to identify a short list of no more than five ‘must have’ and ‘beyond scope of interest’ features of the technology, product or research team so as to establish boundary conditions. Patent databases, trade magazines, conference literature, and our professional networks are targeted as effective sources for the search.
- Fine filter (ranking): the specification of detailed characteristics and attributes of the technology that should be tied back to the business case and rationale. A short-list of detailed information is required on each candidate to rank and prioritize them. The following are some examples of key items of information needed to evaluate the technologies properly:
- Technology characteristics
- Intellectual property (IP) situation at owner of the IP and in the country of origin
- Existing licensees, particularly if they are in competing or adjacent space
- Lifecycle costs (e.g. commercialization, royalties, cost of materials, cost of disposal, and product lifecycle).
